On 30 November 2021, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) awarded SMOU with the MaritimeSG Care Partner Award at the completion of Tuas Port Phase 1 reclamation event. The special award, under the ambit of the MaritimeSG Care Awards, was to give recognition to 5 organisations for their significant contribution towards the fight against COVID-19 and efforts to ensure seafarer welfare. MPA gave special appreciation to SMOU for the strong collaboration on key initiatives such as the SeaVax programme.
50 maritime personnel were also conferred the MaritimeSG Care Awards. Mr Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State for Transport, presented the MaritimeSG Care Excellence Awards to 10 award recipients, and another 40 maritime personnel received the MaritimeSG Care Commendation Award. Developed by MPA with the support of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU), and Singapore Organisation of Seamen (SOS), the awards recognised them for rising up above the challenges and demonstrating excellence in support of their peers for their hard work and efforts, which have enabled the maritime sector, including the port, to continue operations amidst the pandemic to support global trade and supply chains.
SMOU extends their heartiest congratulations to the other 4 organisations that received the MaritimeSG Care Partner Award, namely, Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), Singapore Organisation of Seamen (SOS), Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), and The Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MTSS).
