Travelling into Singapore for the programme from across the region, the Officers, Superintendents and MPA participants learned about the properties of the LNG Fuel along with the corresponding hazards associated with its use as a fuel.

With LNG being a new fuel in use for the industry, the programme offered an insight into the proper safety equipment as well as the protective devices and emphasised the proper use of gas measuring equipment and the necessity for their calibration.

In handling LNG as a fuel, participants were also taught about safe working practices, typical shipboard procedures, measures to deal with leakages, and the different fuel and storage systems, including the safe transfer of LNG Fuel during bunkering.

Delivering the programme at WMI was Master Mariner Neil Macnab, who had traveled from the United Kingdom to share his LNG expertise and experiences beginning in 1984 with LNG, oil, and Product Tankers and subsequently as an LNG specialist in his various professional roles ashore.

The investment in vessels with dual-fuel engines that operate on either LNG or conventional marine fuel is part of PIL’s decarbonisation journey and search for environmentally friendly fuels for a sustainable future.
