What happens when you “Wish” upon a star or join the “Hunger Games”? We’re talking about the SMOU Movies Special.

On 25 November 2023, a total of 890 members, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Health staff and their families, along with children; teachers from My First Skool (MFS) Jalan Sultan; and special guests flocked to watch Disney’s “Wish” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” playing at the theaters at Golden Village VivoCity.

The Disney animated musical fantasy film “Wish” is about a sharp-witted idealist, Asha, who makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force called Star. The American dystopian action film “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is a prequel to the original The Hunger Games trilogy.

SMOU Movies Special became part of a shared experience among family members. There’s nothing quite like a theater full of members laughing, crying, and gasping at the same moments as they journey through the stories together. SMOU General Secretary Sister Mary Liew, who also joined members at the SMOU Movies Special emphasised the union’s commitment to create opportunities for families to spend quality time together.
