Planning for the future is one of the most important conversations we can have. On 11 July 2026, more than 30 SMOU members and their family members gathered for a workshop on the Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), gaining practical knowledge to help them make informed decisions for themselves and their loved ones.

Throughout the workshop, participants explored the importance of planning ahead and learned how a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) can safeguard their interests should they lose mental capacity. They were also guided through the application process, gaining a clearer understanding of the key considerations and decisions involved.  

What once seemed like a complicated and intimidating process became much more approachable as members had the opportunity to ask questions, clarify common misconceptions, and learn in an interactive and supportive environment.  

Beyond understanding the legal aspects, the session encouraged meaningful conversations about future planning with loved ones. Participants left with greater awareness, increased confidence, and the reassurance to take the next steps towards protecting their wishes.  

The workshop served as a timely reminder that planning is not just about preparing for uncertainty but also about caring for the people who matter most, while giving participants the confidence and peace of mind to take meaningful steps towards securing their future.
