A Special May Day Gathering for Seafarers at Jurong Port

More than 50 seafarers came together at the Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MtSS) drop-in centre in Jurong on 14 May 2026 for a special May Day celebration organised by SMOU and MtSS.

The evening offered seafarers a welcome break from life at sea, with good food, fellowship and moments of relaxation. Guests enjoyed a hearty buffet featuring local favourites such as chicken rendang, sambal sotong balls, spicy garlic prawns and pastries from Bengawan Solo and Chewy Junior.

Adding to the warm atmosphere were specially prepared May Day goodie bags, containing practical and commemorative items, including SMOU’s 75th Anniversary duffel bag, travel adaptors and YSMOU merchandise.

Complimentary StarHub SIM cards and massage sessions were also well received, giving seafarers the chance to reconnect with loved ones and unwind after long voyages.

Beyond the festivities, the gathering created opportunities for meaningful conversations among seafarers, SMOU officials, and MtSS officials, who spent time engaging with crew members and expressing appreciation for their contributions to the maritime industry.

The outreach also extended to the Ocean Rally at Jurong Port, where SMOU representatives visited crew members who were unable to attend the event. Food and goodie bags were distributed, and time was taken to connect with the vessel’s Chief Officer and crew, offering a glimpse into their experiences and life at sea.

In total, 100 goodie bags were distributed  through the outreach, — a reminder that even while far from home, seafarers are not forgotten. Through these efforts, SMOU  and  MtSS  continue to reaffirm their commitment to standing alongside seafarers,  recognising not just the work they do, but the people behind it.
