Bringing Festive Cheers Onboard – 24 Dec 2020

2020 has been a challenging year for seafarers all over the world. With border restrictions and crew change being suspended in many ports across continents, the festive season spent with loved ones seems like a distant dream for some seafarers.

On 24 December 2020, the union prepared gift bags for 15 vessels who called at the Singapore port to thank them for their dedication and hard work to keep the supply chain moving around the world. With safe distancing measures in place, gift bags were placed at the entrance of the gangway for their collection.

The union, together with officials from Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MTSS) also took the opportunity to visit the Floatel at Tanjong Pagar Terminal, where signed-on crew members were being housed while they wait for their vessel to arrive. Officials from SMOU and MTSS caught up with the Master and Chief Engineer to understand more about their lives on-board as well as the admin operations on housing the crew members waiting to sign on.
