SMOU officials, together with representatives from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MTSS) visited crew members working at the three floating accommodations, “Floatels”, at the Tanjong Pagar Terminal. These Floatels also serve as dedicated crew facilitation centres for up to 310 crew members who are signing on.
Officials met with Capt Shaiful and crew members who worked tirelessly round the clock to maintain the Floatel for the safety of staff and seafarers onboard. With safe distancing measures in place, the officials caught up with the crew members to understand more about their daily lives working on-board the Floatels followed by a short tour of the facilities.
After the meaningful and fruitful exchange, SMOU officials presented care packs containing essential items as a gesture of appreciation to the crew members working. Apart from the care packs, SMOU officials also brought a birthday cake, gifts and meals from Lighthouse Bistro for the crews who are celebrating their birthday in the month of September so they could have a nice and small celebration amongst themselves.
SMOU will like to thank all the seafarers and Shipping Companies, who came together to facilitate safe crew change in Singapore and keeping our local community safe. This will not have been possible without the close maritime tripartite collaboration with various authorities, the union and the shipping community.
Stay Safe and Stay Healthy!
