Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Chee Hong Tat visited the Wavelink Maritime Institute (WMI) on 9 October to learn more about how the maritime tripartite partners developed the Tripartite Nautical Training Award (TNTA) and Tripartite Engineering Training Award (TETA) initiatives.
The tour of WMI was led by General Manager Capt Lee Sang Chiat, where Mr Chee got to observe the classes conducted by the lecturers of TNTA and TETA. The highlight of the tour was the state-of-the-art 240-Degree Main Navigational Bridge Simulator. There, Capt Lee introduced Mr Chee to the immersive experience of navigating through day and night sailing conditions.
The visit concluded with a networking session over Lighthouse Bistro bento meals together with WMI’s alumni cadets and the graduating TNTA cohort 18. “There are many opportunities in the maritime industry. It is a sector which can cater to a broad spectrum of Singaporeans from different backgrounds. Our approach is to hire for passion and train for skills. Hope to see more Singaporeans make maritime your next port of call!” said Mr Chee.
“I also encourage our seafarers to use this opportunity to go for training and upgrade their skills.
