Celebrating Seafarers This May Day at Jurong Port

On 23 May 2025, representatives from the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and the Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MtSS) came together to celebrate May Day and show their heartfelt appreciation for seafarers at the MtSS Drop-in Centre in Jurong Port.

The event welcomed around 50 seafarers who were treated to a generous buffet spread and warm hospitality. The menu featured a delightful mix of local and international favourites—including baked honey-glazed chicken wings, garlic prawns, fish fingers, sautéed broccoli, yellow raisin rice, traditional Teochew tau sar piah, and crowd-favourite Old Chang Kee snacks. It was a hearty meal, made better by good company and genuine conversations.

Each seafarer received a thoughtfully prepared gift pack filled with healthy snacks from the NTUC May Day Committee, along with a practical travel adaptor from SMOU to help them stay powered up. Additionally, StarHub generously included data SIM cards so seafarers could easily stay connected with their loved ones while at sea.

In a thoughtful extension of the celebration, the team also paid a visit to the crew of Cosmic Polaris, a vessel berthed at Jurong Port. Although the crew was unable to join the main event, they received the same warm gestures—delicious food, care packs, and messages of appreciation delivered right to their ship.

The event served as a meaningful reminder of how vital seafarers are to Singapore and the world. Through their tireless work and dedication, they keep global trade moving. This May Day celebration was a small but sincere way to say: Happy May Day 2025 to all seafarers. Thank you for your service and commitment.
