SMOU believes that it is Because of You – our members, that the union is where it is today. The Union not only cares for our members’ employment, education and welfare, but also for the members’ family. As such, we make it a point to be there for our members especially as they welcome their little bundle of joy into the world!
Through the baby hamper initiative, the Young SMOU (YSMOU) team reached out and had the opportunity to engage with some of the members and their families, as well as welcome the newborn baby together with them. It is indeed heart-warming to be able to celebrate this momentous occasion.
SMOU member of 14 years, Chang Jie Ming, shared that “I was surprised when I heard about this initiative from another seafaring friend as I had thought the union’s support was limited to maritime-related activities. It was nice to learn that the union’s support extends beyond the industry and I appreciate the union for wanting to be a part of this milestone with us.”
Fuad Nurhadi Bin Mohd Yatim, member of 7 years, was happy to have the union here to celebrate with them on the arrival of their daughter. “It was a very thoughtful initiative and we are very appreciative. Thank you SMOU!”
