December has to be the best time of the year with Christmas just around the corner and the year coming to a close to usher in another new year.
On 6 December, SMOU and the Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MtSS) jointly celebrated Christmas with seafarers at the Jurong MtSS drop-in centre as well as vessels docked at the port. The Christmas celebration, organised by SMOU and MtSS, with the support of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), is an effort to acknowledge the seafarers who work through the holiday season to ensure the continuity of world trade.
At the Jurong MtSS drop-in centre, more than 40 seafarers turned up for an evening of yuletide celebration. Representatives from MPA (Ms Wan Fei Fei, Deputy Director), SMOU (Mr Gwee Guo Duan, Assistant General Secretary) and MtSS Management Committee Member (Mr Tom Bonehill, Norstar) was at the party, pouring out Christmas blessings and thanks to the seafarers.
Amidst the Christmas feasting, seafarers were able to engage in fun and joyful connections with one another and with SMOU, MPA and MtSS officials. Each seafarer was gifted with Starhub data SIM card, and more presents. The seafarers appreciated the SIM cards which would allow more talk time for seafarers when they connect with their loved ones.
The time of feasting and merrymaking provided much relaxation, recreation and reconnection. A morale-booster! Seafarer, Jordan Badeo from Ken Voyager, was so glad he came declaring, “This is my best Christmas as a seafarer.”
Ensuring that no seafarer would be missed out of the celebration, SMOU, MtSS and MPA officials visited the vessels that were docked at the port – MV VIMB Brave, Sunrise Summer, Ken Voyager and Seven Oceanic. The ship visits brought good tidings of festive cheer, feast and gifts to more than 60 crew members who were not able to join in the Christmas celebration at the drop-in centre.
Wishing all a holly jolly Christmas wherever you are.
