The COVID-19 global experience in the past year has shown us that we are living in a world of uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. Changes in our environment, the economy, and our workplace has meant that we now have to continuously grow to stay relevant and employable.

Wavelink Maritime Institute (WMI) has been working together with Integrated Learning Systems (ILS) to deliver an online programme, “Agility For Growth”, for maritime industry professionals and seafaring Officers. The programme was delivered on 21 April 2021 with some 20 participants from the maritime industry in a virtual classroom.

Ms Jessica Choo from ILS shared with participants that ‘Agility’ is an ongoing life journey and not an accomplishment or a destination, citing that change in life is always constant. She added that for professionals to stay competitive, they should have a mindset of welcoming disruptions by technological advancements to traditional work, be open to planned changes, and embrace growth and agile development – the keys to a successful career.

Participants at the session also learned about practical techniques to adopt and develop the right mindset, improve positivity in their thinking and decision-making, reframe challenges using a growth mindset, and overcome challenges with confidence and resilience.

This programme is part of a series of training programmes offered by WMI for the maritime industry.
