Malacca Food Crawl with SMOU Senior Citizens

As food serves as a bridge to cultural understanding, what better way to learn about a country’s culture than through its food? With the resumption of travels, SMOU organised the annual senior citizen trip for its members.

From 11-13 November 2022, close to 100 excited members and their family members took a trip to Malacca.  Upon arrival, a Peranakan lunch was served at Ole Sayang. After the delectable lunch, members embarked on a city tour around the historical landmarks of Malacca. Many were seen whipping their phones out and taking pictures of the sights.

During the welcome dinner at the Holiday Inn Melaka, members were seen catching up with each other and recounting on the day’s activities. The Shore Tower and Jonker Street were amongst other places of interest that members visited in the day. Members were keenly exploring the streets of Malacca and were ready to eat by the end of the day.

The weekend getaway concluded with a seafood dinner at the Sekelurga Restaurant before members headed back to Singapore. The seniors and their family members had a lot of fun trying new food and exploring new places.

“I have been a SMOU member for 40 years and like other SMOU events, we found this trip to be well organised, safe and fun. Our tour guide was well informed and brought us to great makan and sight-seeing places. Everyone was attentive to our needs and pampering us with so much good food! I look forward to many more trips with SMOU. Well done!”
