SMOU and TSFA Sign Bilateral Agreement to Foster Closer Ties

The bilateral relations between SMOU and Thai Seafarer Association (TSFA) were further strengthened when both parties signed an agreement to work closely for the betterment of their seafarers.

On 1 June 2023, both unions inked their commitment to coordinate their efforts to organise and represent Thai seafarers onboard Singapore CBA vessels. They agreed to co-operate for the benefit and welfare of Thai seafarers; and to provide mutual assistance to them.

Signing the agreement were SMOU Assistant General Secretary Mr Gwee Guo Duan and Brother Nopadol Kaewsuwan, Honorary Chairman of TSFA, in the presence of SMOU General Secretary Ms Mary Liew and Emeritus General Secretary Mr Thomas Tay.

Both unions took the valuable opportunity to foster deeper ties by sharing knowledge and insights on their approaches to maritime-related challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the dialogue, SMOU also heard from TSFA how the pre-boarding CadetsPlus programme had benefited the Thai cadets in preparing them for the transition to work onboard Singapore-registered ships and among multi-national crew.

Three cheers to the “Thais” that bind.
