SMOU Blood Donation Drive Gives Back to Community

More than 60 SMOU members, partners, and their family and friends came together on 12 June 2026 at Jalan Besar Community Club with one shared goal, to donate blood and help save lives.

Held as part of SMOU’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, the blood donation drive was a simple way for the community to give back. It brought people from different backgrounds together to support Singapore’s national blood supply.

Inside the hall, the mood was warm and relaxed. Donors sat side by side, squeezing stress balls and chatting quietly as they waited for their turn. For many, it was a small act, but one that carried real meaning.

SMOU was honoured to welcome Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District and Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC, as the special guest. Her presence highlighted how important community support is in keeping the nation’s blood supply strong.

Young SMOU volunteers were also on hand throughout the day, guiding donors and helping with registration to ensure everything ran smoothly.

In his welcome address, SMOU President Rahim Jaffar thanked donors for stepping forward. He said,

“Every donor here today is making a real difference to someone’s life.”

After completing their donations, participants enjoyed light refreshments. Activities such as gachapon and pen marbling added a fun touch, and each donor received an appreciation pack for their contribution.

For many, the biggest takeaway was knowing that a simple act could help save a life. As the Health Sciences Authority reminds us,

Give Blood, Save Lives

The SMOU Blood Donation Drive showed how a small act of giving can bring people together and make a meaningful impact beyond the maritime community.

Missed the blood donation drive? You can still make a difference.

Those who were unable to donate on 12 June can participate in SMOU’s Every Drop Counts Blood Donation Campaign from 1 July to 30 November 2026. Members who donate at any HSA bloodbank and follow the campaign steps will receive a special SMOU Donor Appreciation Pack.
