SMOU Hardship Assistance Scheme – Mr How Kim Hock

SMOU has always cared for the welfare of our members and families, even more when they are going through difficult times. SMOU Member of 19 years Mr How Kim Hock, reached out to the Union for assistance. A welfare home visit was then arranged, attended by SMOU President Mr Rahim Jaffar and Chairman of SMOU Membership Committee Mr Tan Hung Tat.

SMOU Officials learned that Mr How was diagnosed with kidney failure and has started Home Dialysis since July 2020. His employment was also affected due to his kidney failure and old age. “My medical and household expenses are increasing and I didn’t have a lot of people to help me,” he explained.

After a thorough consultation, Mr How’s predicament was brought to the SMOU Executive Committee (EXCO) for consideration of support under the SMOU Hardship Assistance Scheme. Considering Mr How’s plight and lack of assistance, the Hardship Assistance Scheme was approved by the EXCO to help ease his medical expenses. To further lighten the financial load in the long-term, SMOU assisted Mr How with the NTUC Hardship Grant application process as well as the ComCare Financial application by the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

“The SMOU Hardship Assistance has helped to lighten the burden of my medical expenses. Thank you for making a positive impact and lifting up the lives of members in need.” Mr How Kim Hock, SMOU member of 19 years.
