Strengthening Bonds on the Green at SMOU CURE Golf & Dinner 2025

The spirit of camaraderie and community was alive and well on 11 March 2025 as SMOU members, shipping partners and guests teed off at the annual SMOU Company Union Rapport Exercise CURE Golf & Dinner, held at the Orchid Country Club.

Against the backdrop of the Aranda and Dendro courses, players enjoyed a day of friendly competition, scenic greens and the occasional cheer for a well-played shot. With Hole in One prizes up for grabs including a golf set, a term membership and a selection of premium spirits, the stakes were high, but the atmosphere remained warm and relaxed.

Adding to the fun were novelty contests such as Nearest the Pin, Nearest the Line and Longest Drive, which kept golfers on their toes and added an extra thrill to the game.

As the sun set, the day transitioned from golf swings to good vibes at the dinner reception. Guests were treated to a cosy evening programme that included a live music performance and much anticipated prize presentations.

In her address, SMOU General Secretary Ms Mary Liew warmly thanked all participants for their continued support, highlighting the importance of strong union company partnerships in building a resilient maritime workforce.

She later returned to the stage to present awards to the day’s top performers, recognising champions from both the Men’s and Women’s divisions, as well as winners of the novelty contests.

To round off the evening, SMOU celebrated its birthday with a lucky draw that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Mr Yong Soon Huat, Treasurer of SMOU, took the stage to draw the top ten prizes, from tenth place all the way to the grand winner, bringing excitement and cheers from the crowd.

From tee off to the final toast, the SMOU CURE Golf & Dinner 2025 was a meaningful occasion that reflected the union’s continued commitment to engaging members and strengthening industry ties both on and off the green.
