SMOU formed a Company Training Committee (CTC) on the 21 January with its fourth shipping company, U-Ming Marine Transport. The formation of the CTC was penned with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SMOU General Secretary, Mary Liew and Senior Vice President of U-Ming, Vincent Phua.

The CTC, comprising of the company’s management and SMOU representatives, aims to equip employees of the company with necessary skills that will enable them to undertake new and re-designed jobs that might emerge from industry transformation. NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) will assist in the early stages to co-develop solutions in addressing human resource and training needs.

The end result is a workforce that is more skilled and productive, able to increase value for the business, while enjoying better wages, welfare and career prospects.
