WMI Singapore Crew Change Training Webinar

As essential workers, seafarers play a critical role in keeping the seaborne trade constant moving but the COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted crew change operations for the maritime industry.

Singapore has been one of the most responsive nations at the forefront facilitating crew changes during this pandemic, and publishing the Singapore Crew Change Guidebook with the necessary protocols to facilitate crew changes and repatriation of seafarers.

To help the industry and working professionals facilitating crew changes better understand the procedures of performing crew changes in Singapore, Wavelink Maritime Institute (WMI) hosted a training webinar on 27 October. This is part of WMI’s mission to value-add and to serve the training needs of the maritime industry.

Some 80 representatives from governmental maritime administrations, ship management companies and manning agencies spanning Singapore, Asia and Europe attended the free training webinar conducted by WMI General Manager, Capt Lee Sang Chiat. Capt Lee explained in detail the procedures that participants had to be aware when performing crew change in the Republic. The 2-hour session also included a Question & Answer segment to help participants, especially those based overseas to better understand the context of the measures put in place in Singapore and to address their queries arising from the procedures.
