WMI’s Virtual Classroom Short Courses during COVID-19 Lockdown

Millions are having their education disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this uncertain environment, it is important that learning continues. For Wavelink Maritime Institute (WMI), training operations are ongoing on digital platforms, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely via Virtual Classroom.

On 13 May, some 21 maritime industry professionals from SMOU’s Collective Bargaining Agreement companies; Alfa Ship Managers Pte. Ltd, Grindrod Shipping Pte Ltd, Laurel Ship Management Pte Ltd, Pacific International Lines Pte Ltd and POSH Fleet Services Pte Ltd participated in the Maritime Cyber Security Awareness Programme during the inaugural Virtual Classroom session, from the comforts of their home.

With WMI’s Lecturer Mr Liew Hong Lin facilitating the session, participants learned through a series of case studies the challenges of cyber security in the maritime environment, and how best to address the issues through understanding existing and upcoming applicable regulations and operationalising best practices in their companies ashore and on-board ships.

Beyond this first Virtual Classroom programme, WMI will also be introducing the Maritime Mental Health Programme on the Virtual Classroom platform later in May 2020.
