As the shipping industry celebrates The Day of the Seafarer, Young SMOU (YSMOU) also gathered its young seafarers for this special day on 25 June 2024.

The YSMOU Seafarers Get-Together, held at the Lighthouse Bistro, saw more than 40 young seafarers and alumni of YSMOU congregate for an evening of forging friendships and networking over a buffet spread.

The event kickstarted with a welcome address by YSMOU Chairman Brother Dominic Yong, who thanked the seafarers present and the many who are onboard for their contributions towards the industry and called for them to always be safe at work. He also shared about the upcoming events and initiatives that the youth members could participate in before gathering everyone for a group photo, capturing the spirit of camaraderie as young seafarers united in commemorating the Day of the Seafarer.

With good food as a catalyst for connecting, the young seafarers were able to forge new friendships and strengthen ties. Youth members who are relatively new had the opportunity to get to know other fellow seafarers, and the rest were seen catching up with each other, with many of them exchanging their experiences.

The atmosphere of networking and interaction among the young seafarers brought much joy. The seafarers also had a drawing of themselves done by a caricaturist and were presented with a Day of the Seafarer bag, sponsored by SMOU, SOS, MPA, PSA, and Jurong Port.

It was heartwarming to see young seafarers enjoying the gathering, which provided a great opportunity for networking and strengthening the maritime community.
