Celebrating National Day with Crews at PSA Brani Terminal

During the period of Singapore’s National Day, SMOU celebrated with seafarers whose vessels docked at PSA Brani Terminal. Over three days from 13-15 August 2024, SMOU conducted ship visits, reaching out to a total of 70 crew members from Wanhai 521, Kota Rukun and Kota Nipah.

The ship visits to Wanhai 21, Kota Rukun and Kota Nipah, saw SMOU teams led by President of SMOU Mr Rahim Bin Jaffar, SMOU General Secretary Ms Mary Liew and SMOU Assistant Secretary Ms Joyce Lee, engaging with seafarers on matters pertaining to wages, welfare on board ship, training and mental health. The feedback garnered will guide the union in putting forward resolutions to improve and better seafarers’ lives and to develop relevant training programmes in collaboration with shipping companies that have Collective Agreements with the union.

Adding a touch of Singapore hospitality, crew members whose birthdates were in August had the privilege of having their birthdays celebrated with a special birthday cake. Officers were gifted with goodie bags containing practical items and party pack snacks in them. The crews enjoyed a lunch of Subway sandwiches accompanied by a selection of Old Chang Kee finger food such fish ball, sotong ball and chicken sausage. The seafarers were grateful that the union spent time to check on their well-being and engaged with them on their needs. The special and thoughtful gifts and food added to their joy.
