On 20 June 2025, the waters of the Singapore Sports Hub Water Sports Centre came alive with energy and teamwork as 16 youth members gathered for the Youth Interest Group – Dragonboat Orientation Programme. 

This youth-led initiative, supported by Young SMOU (YSMOU), marked the second instalment of the Youth Interest Group’s efforts to strengthen bonds among members through shared interests. Following the success of last year’s Stand-Up Paddling session, the Dragonboat orientation saw participants trading paddles once more. 

Taking the lead was YSMOU Committee Member Brother Benjamin Yip, who organised the session with the aim of bringing youth members together through a fun and meaningful experience. 

After a short briefing by the facilitator, the youth geared up and took to the water. As the boats cut through the calm surface, the importance of working in sync quickly became clear.  

The session ended on a high with a friendly race that brought out the best of everyone’s competitive spirit, leaving participants with a sense of accomplishment and new friendships forged. 

Events like these continue to offer SMOU’s youthyounger members the chance to learn, lead and grow together.
