Exploring the Power of Generative AI

From creating eye-catching artwork and personalised e-cards to composing original music and producing videos, SMOU members discovered firsthand that artificial intelligence is a practical and exciting tool for everyday life.

Over two sessions on 15 and 29 August 2026 at ITE College Central @ Ang Mo Kio, about 40 participants gained foundational knowledge to boost their productivity, creativity, and digital readiness, while emphasising the importance of responsible use.

Facilitated by trainers Estebelle and Charmaine, the Generative AI Essentials course kicked off with an engaging icebreaker during which participants shared their expectations and learning goals. Through live demonstrations of ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, attendees were introduced to Generative AI, common AI tools, and their key features.

The course didn’t just teach theory; it put digital tools in members’ hands. They prompted ChatGPT to generate a chicken rice recipe, used Claude for language translation, and explored image generation to transform their photographs into caricature, cartoon, and anime-style images for personalised e-cards and messages.

The creative journey didn’t stop at visuals. The programme also ventured into audio, music, and video generation. Participants experimented with AI-generated voices on Speechma, tweaking pitch, speed, and volume control. They composed original songs from text prompts using Suno AI and learned to generate videos from scratch with Google Flow.

Beyond showcasing AI’s limitless creative potential, the trainers addressed critical real-world risks, including deepfakes and misinformation. Members were encouraged to stay vigilant and use AI tools responsibly as they navigate an increasingly digital world.
