A Heartwarming Journey Through Time with Seniors from Jamiyah Nursing Home

For 12 senior residents of Jamiyah Nursing Home (Darul Syifaa), 18 February was a day to remember—a chance to step out of their daily routine and embark on an exciting cultural adventure at the National Museum of Singapore. Accompanied by dedicated youth volunteers, the seniors explored Singapore’s rich history, reminiscing about the past while forging new intergenerational connections.

The visit began at the Singapore History Gallery, where interactive exhibits transported the seniors back in time. As they wandered through displays showcasing the nation’s transformation, they eagerly shared personal anecdotes, adding their own voices to Singapore’s history. The exchange of stories between seniors and volunteers made the experience deeply personal and engaging

The group later gathered at Reunion, where they participated in a Shrink Art Craft activity. Choosing from iconic Singaporean objects like ice kacang, kopi-o cups and more, the seniors delighted in watching their artwork shrink into miniature keychains. Laughter and excitement filled the room as they marveled at the transformation, proudly showcasing their creations.

The afternoon concluded with an SG60 celebration, and a delightful high tea session. The seniors were all smiles as they enjoyed the delicious snacks.

The day wrapped up with each senior receiving a care bag filled with necessities and treats, including those in the dementia ward. Through this meaningful outing, YSMOU volunteers not only enriched the lives of the seniors but also embraced the spirit of care and community.
