A Virtual Teambuilding Experience

Young SMOU (YSMOU) organised its first ever virtual teambuilding activity for the 13 cadets from Tripartite Nautical Training Award (TNTA) Cohort 18. Despite the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, YSMOU continues to engage and provide opportunities for its youth members to strengthen their friendship and team spirit through a virtual game of Amazing Race in the safe confines of their homes.

The virtual Amazing Race required participants to complete specific tasks under time pressure, whilst having fun online. Taking part in the activity allowed cadets to not only have fun, but build trust, communicate amongst team members, and to look out for each other as they took part in the challenge – critical qualities to have when sailing.

A deeper rapport was also built between the TNTA cadets and YSMOU officials over a virtual game of Amazing Race. At the networking session, cadets took the opportunity to share and voice out their concerns before they embark on their sea-going journey. The fruitful teambuilding session concluded with a delectable dinner delivered to participants’ homes.

“This is my first and unique virtual teambuilding experience with YSMOU. I was able to work on my communication skills while i look out for my team members. One of the fun moments was when we were all trying to figure out how to get the task done. Eventually, with team work, we learnt that this is how we can overcome hurdles and accomplish our task!” Muhammad Isa Bin Mohamad Sarif, cadet from TNTA Cohort 18.
