Celebrating Racial Harmony and National Day at My First Skool

The richness of our multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious heritage is what makes Singapore, Singapore. Our nation’s multi-cultural mosaic was on full display when My First Skool at Jalan Sultan celebrated Racial Harmony Day and National Day with the parents, SMOU leaders and NTUC First Campus on 1 August 2024.

There to receive and welcome guests was NTUC Deputy Secretary-General and Bright Horizons Fund (BHF) Chairman, Brother Heng Chee How. SMOU General Secretary Sister Mary Liew and Emeritus General Secretary, Brother Thomas Tay were invited to join Brother Heng Chee How for a tour around My First Skool Centre’s vibrant activity zones. Through a series of cultural performances, including dances, songs and a captivating shadow puppetshow, the children showcased their talents and highlighted Singapore’s rich cultural diversity.

Following the cultural performances, Brother Heng Chee How, Sister Mary Liew and Brother Thomas Tay engaged with the children from My First Skool in a series of fun, educational and cultural activities, further enhancing the sense of community spirit.

A special highlight of the event was the unveiling of a beautifully designed plantable notebook created by the children. Presented to each child, the special notebook can be planted on soil after it’s finished, instilling a sense of sustainability and environmental stewardship

The event concluded with a group photo, capturing the spirit of community – one united people. It was a meaningful celebration of Racial Harmony Day and Singapore’s National Day, reinforcing the values of diversity and togetherness.
