Glowing Mid-Autumn Joy to Jalan Besar Community

Young SMOU (YSMOU) strengthened its commitment to corporate social responsibility at the Jalan Besar Active Ageing Centre (JB AAC) with a heartwarming celebration of both the Mid-Autumn Festival and the International Day of Older Persons, bringing joy and togetherness to the seniors.

On 19 September 2024, YSMOU organised a lantern-making workshop, followed by care packs distribution. Around 40 seniors participated in a lantern-making workshop, where they learned to assemble lantern frames and paint them. The activity ignited their creativity as they sketched and painted on paper. With the volunteers helping at the various stages of lantern-making, the seniors were able to complete their personalised lantern. It was a fulfilling and enriching experience for the seniors.

Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District and Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC commended SMOU for their unwavering care for the seniors of Jalan Besar. Ms Phua inspired the seniors to remain active by helping one another and making meaningful contributions to the society. She also thanked the volunteers for dedicating their time to help out in the volunteering event.

Ms Phua was joined by SMOU officials in the presentation of care packs to seniors at the Jalan Besar AAC.

While lunch buffet was served, seniors had a great time of bonding and sharing their lantern creations with one another.

Extending their care out of the centre, Ms Denise Phua, SMOU officials and youth volunteers visited and delivered care packs and bento lunches to seniors at their home, which brought them much joy to them.
