Celebrating May Day with Seafarers at Jurong

On 8 May 2024, SMOU, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MTSS) came together to celebrate May Day with seafarers at the Jurong MtSS drop-in centre as well as vessels docked at the port.

A buffet spread of vegetable penne pasta, grilled honey-charred chicken, chilli prawn, stir-fried broccoli with oyster sauce, chicken rice, and an assortment of local kuehs, awaited some 50 seafarers at the drop-in centre. Aside from the May Day banquet, each seafarer was gifted with an anti-theft, cut-proof urban bumbag with RFID-protected pocket, where each bag was filled with snacks and lozenges; and Starhub data SIM card, which was a great hit.

Seafarers at the drop-in centre had a great time of rest, recreation and reconnection with SMOU, MTSS and MPA officials as they mingled, touched base, shared stories and played games together. A balloon-popping activity saw many seafarers pitting against each other for the prize of a Nescafe Dolce Gusto espresso machine.

SMOU, MTSS and MPA officials proceeded to visit vessels docked at Jurong port ie MV Pulau Yozora and Xin Da Jiang, and brought food and goodie bags to the crew members who could not drop-in at the centre. The good food, goodie bags and greetings brought much delight to the seafarers at Jurong Port.

Happy May Day!
