What happens when you “Wish” upon a star, or join the “Hunger Games”? We’re talking about the SMOU Movies Special.

On 25 November 2023, a total of 890 members, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Health staff and their families, along with children, teachers from My First Skool (MFS) Jalan Sultan, and special guests flocked to watch Disney’s “Wish” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, playing at the theatres at Golden Village Vivocity.

The Disney animated musical fantasy film “Wish,” is about a sharp-witted idealist, Asha who makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force called Star. Whereas the American dystopian action film “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is a prequel to the original The Hunger Games trilogy.

SMOU Movies Special became part of a shared experience among family members. There’s nothing quite like a theatre full of members laughing, crying and gasping at the same moments as they journeyed through the stories together. SMOU General Secretary, Sister Mary Liew, who also joined members at the SMOU Movies Special emphasised the union’s commitment to create opportunities for families to spend quality time together.
