Negotiation and Influencing in the Maritime Industry

Negotiating is part of a process of dialogue leading to the influencing of outcomes that we practise daily with those around us, whether at work onboard a ship or in the office, and even at home with those whom we are familiar with.

Some 20 participants from six SMOU Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Companies of ASP Crew Management, Columbia Shipmanagement, PACC Tanker Management, POSH Fleet Services, Singa Star and Unix Line participated in the inaugural programme. The programme titled ‘Negotiating and Influencing in the Maritime Industry’ was organised by Wavelink Maritime Institute on 24 May 2021 for the maritime industry.

Led by Ms Kit Teng from Psalms Consultancy LLP, participants learned the different types of negotiation styles, influencing techniques and how they can negotiate without compromising their rules and beliefs. Participants also took part in role-play and discussions that allowed them to share personal negotiating experiences and learn from best practices.

It was an insightful session of learning where maritime professionals from CBA Companies were equipped with skills to contribute to their businesses more impactfully.
