Pedals, Poses, and Portside Puzzles Young Mariners Take on the 10KM Anchor Loop!

Who says mariners only navigate the open seas? On two wheels and against Singapore’s stunning city skyline, 14 young seafarers proved they can conquer the pavement just as smoothly as the waves!

On 19 September 2026, the SMOU Youth Interest Group rolled out the Young Mariners’ Anchor Loop: 10KM City Navigation Challenge. The mission? Strengthen camaraderie, test maritime wits, and build peer networks through an action-packed morning of cycling and team challenges.

Spearheaded by youth member Kanade Saiprasad and his team members Nylea, Hazim and Jerry, the event demonstrated the impact of empowering youths to step up, take the lead and build their confidence. With support from Young SMOU, they charted a course from High Street Centre, cycling through Marina Bay and Marina South Pier. But this was no leisurely ride. At each checkpoint, participants tackled a series of maritime-themed challenges that tested both their physical stamina and problem-solving skills.

From spotting historical landmarks that guided merchant ships in Singapore’s early days to testing their sea-smarts in a rapid-fire trivia showdown, energy ran high. The highlight along the way? Unleashing their inner movie stars by recreating the legendary Titanic pose, bringing plenty of laughs and memorable snapshots to the waterfront loop.

The Young Mariners’ Anchor Loop was more than just a 10km fitness challenge. It was a testament to the power of community. Whether on the road, at the dining table, or out at sea, our young mariners are proving that when we ride together, we go further.
