Rising to the Occasion: SMOU Members Bake Up a Storm 

SMOU members rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the world of artisanal baking at the SMOU SkillsFuture Exclusive Class on Breads and Buns Making. Held over two days from 18 to 19 April 2026 at the SSA Culinary Institute, the workshop brought together 20 enthusiastic participants eager to sharpen their baking skills using their SkillsFuture credits.

The class began with the fundamentals, as members learned to craft wholesome multigrain loaves and rich, fruity brioche. Participants gained hands-on experience in mastering techniques that transform simple ingredients into flavourful, bakery-quality creations. 

On the second day, the session took on a celebratory twist. Members channelled their creativity into shaping baguettes into the number “75,” in tribute to SMOU’s milestone anniversary. The breads were further adorned with icing, alongside beautifully prepared garlic knots and bombolini arranged to reflect the union’s logo. The result was a striking and meaningful display of both skill and pride. 

The workshop concluded on a high note, with participants proudly presenting their creations and coming together to wish SMOU a happy 75th birthday. Beyond the delicious results, the class reflected SMOU’s commitment to lifelong learning, offering members the opportunity to explore new interests and grow their skills.
