What better way to celebrate Singapore than with family, friends, fun, and fireworks? Marina Barrage came alive in a sea of red and white as more than 640 SMOU members and their families gathered for an evening of celebration, laughter and togetherness at SMOU Family Connection on 1 August 2026.
The festive mood was unmistakable from the moment members arrived. Dressed in Singapore’s national colours, families explored a lively carnival filled with games, treats and activities for everyone. Members collected their festive goodie bags and meal bundles, while those who had pre-ordered the durian add-on eagerly tucked into the king of fruits.
For the younger ones, the excitement continued with glitter tattoos and colourful balloon sculptures specially designed around the National Day theme. Adults were not left out either, with many taking their turn at the claw machines in the hope of snagging a prize.
And what is a carnival without carnival treats? Ice cream, popcorn, candy floss and muahcheeadded to the festive spread, while music and laughter filled the air. It was a scene that captured the simple joys of spending quality time together as a family.
As dusk settled over Marina Barrage, the excitement shifted into high gear. National Day songs and upbeat music led families towards the rooftop garden, where everyone gathered for the evening’s grand finale.
With the Singapore skyline as the backdrop, the atmosphere soared as the state flag flypast made its appearance. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. The night sky burst into brilliant colours as fireworks lit up the horizon. Cheers erupted, phones were raised to capture the spectacle, and families watched in awe as the dazzling display unfolded above them.
For SMOU members, it was more than just an evening out. It was a celebration of family, friendship and the strong community spirit that brings people together. It was also a reminder of the pride we share in being part of Singapore’s story and the journey ahead.
As the final fireworks faded, the spirit of the evening remained: celebrating together, looking forward together, and continuing to go beyond together.
