Triple Celebration SMOU Anniversary + Manila Nite + Wavelink CadetsPlus Graduation

The atmosphere was electric as seafarers, cadets, and maritime partners gathered for an unforgettable evening of celebration, recognition, and fellowship.

Bringing together three significant milestones, SMOU Manila Nite 2026 marked the union’s 75th anniversary alongside the graduation of a new cohort of Wavelink CadetsPlus cadets, creating a memorable occasion for the maritime community in the Philippines.

Held on 22 May 2026 at Conrad Manila, the event welcomed more than 600 guests, including seafarers, cadets, and shipping partners, who were ushered into a lively cocktail reception with interactive foyer activities such as a photowall, AI photobooth, claw machines, and a 3D SMOU display.

The event officially commenced with the arrival of Guest-of-Honour representative Undersecretary Felicitas Q. Bay and Special Guest Ambassador Constance See. Representatives from TUCP, AMOSUP, and leading shipping companies then filled the room, adding to the warm and anticipatory atmosphere.

An energetic performance by Legit Status set the tone for the evening. Emcee Ms Giselle opened the programme by highlighting SMOU’s 75th anniversary and the significance of the CadetsPlusgraduation, followed by an opening address by SMOU General Secretary Ms Mary Liew. Undersecretary Bay also delivered a congratulatory message, emphasising the importance of investing in the next generation of maritime professionals.

A defining moment of the night saw SMOU and Wavelink officials commemorate the union’s 75-year milestone with a ceremonial cake-cutting and toast, honouring its enduring commitment to safeguarding seafarers’ welfare and advancing the profession.

The spotlight then shifted to the cadets, as cheers filled the ballroom for the recognition of 114 Filipino graduates of the CadetsPlus Programme. Excellence was celebrated with the presentation of the CadetsPlus awards by Mr Teo Teng Seng, President of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA). MA Cristy Nena Ramires received the Best Academic Award, while John Lloyd C. Cebedowas named Most Outstanding Cadet. He later delivered a heartfelt speech, followed by a cadet performance featuring an a cappella rendition of Viva La Vida.

Beyond the formalities, guests enjoyed a range of engagement activities, including a table treasure hunt, table draw, and interactive game segments. Hosted by the ever-energetic Ms Giselle and featuring entertainment from LPP Talents, the evening was further complemented with a Singapore-inspired menu, Bak Kut Teh, adding a distinctive local touch that reflected its cross-border spirit.

Excitement built during the lucky draws, including the Seafarers’ Draw presented by Ambassador Constance See and the CadetsPlus Draw presented by Capt Felix Rebustes, Vice President of AMOSUP. Supported by maritime sponsors, the draws saw prizes presented to delighted guests, with special rounds also held for CadetsPlus participants.

By the end of the night, the celebration stood as a tribute to SMOU’s 75-year legacy, the promise of its newest graduates, and the shared commitment uniting the maritime community across borders and generations.  Live performances by Circa brought the evening to a close, before the emcee extended a final note of thanks to attendees and partners for their continued support.
