There’s nothing quite like a good kopi talk to spark meaningful conversations. On 5 November 2025, Young SMOU (YSMOU) hosted a cosy Kopi Talk session with local seafarers pursuing their Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 2 at the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA).
Leading the conversation was YSMOU Manager, Sherry Tan, who introduced the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) as a steadfast partner in safeguarding seafarers’ welfare as well as a cultivator of professional growth.
She shared a wide range of training support, educational subsidies, and upskilling opportunities available to members, alongside various networking platforms for members to build meaningful industry connections within the maritime community.
As the conversation flowed, SMOU representatives exchanged stories with the seafarers, listening to their experiences and sharing upcoming events they could participate in. The relaxed setting encouraged candid sharing, giving YSMOU valuable insight into the needs and aspirations of Singapore’s seafaring community.
More than just an awareness session, YSMOU Kopi Talk served as a platform to strengthen relationships, foster open communication, and reaffirm SMOU’s commitment to walking alongside seafarers as they chart their professional journeys.
