Early Learning Journey into the Life of a Seafarer with MyFirstSkool

What do children want to become when they grow up? Some may say footballer, ballet dancer, vet, firefighter, or seafarer?

In a most compelling and creative manner, Chief Officer Johanes shared all about a career in seafaring with 40 children from kindergartens 1 and 2. SMOU dropped in at MyFirstSkool, Jalan Sultan, on 24 June 2024.

To increase children’s awareness of the concept of careers, the seafarer talk saw Johanes, Chief Officer with Tide Water Offshore, share insights of his life at sea. To pique the interest of the preschoolers, a question was asked: Did anyone know how their Lego reaches them? That was how Johanes found an inroad to introduce shipping and seafaring. For many of the kids, it was the first time they heard about seafaring. The interactive session saw the kids asking if there’s fire onboard and if there are encounters with pirates. It was obvious that the children were fascinated with maritime things. A constant stream of questions kept the seafarer talk engaging and created a learning space for the young children to explore their future career ambitions.

At the end of the talk, a group photo with the teachers and Chief Officer Johanes was taken. It was an eye-opener for the preschoolers at MyFirstSkool to discover all about shipping and seafaring.
