Scent-sational Evening for SMOU Female Seafarers

On 28 July 2025, 18 female seafarers came together at Vcube Scenting for an SMOU Women’s Networking Session designed to bring members, cadets, and students together in a casual and supportive setting.

The evening welcomed SMOU members, Diploma in Nautical Studies students from the Singapore Maritime Academy, and Tripartite Maritime Training Award cadets. What made the session special was the opportunity for women in maritime to connect, share their experiences, and learn from one another over good food and conversation.

Joining the session were SMOU Vice President Siti Ainul Nellisa and SMOU Women’s Committee representatives, including Sherry, Angel, and Queenette. The informal setting created space for open discussions about life at sea, personal challenges, and how women in the industry can support each other through their journeys.

Over dinner, representatives from Young SMOU and the Membership Services Division also shared how SMOU supports its members through welfare assistance, training opportunities, and access to mental wellness services. Cadets had the chance to ask questions and raise concerns, offering useful insights into what young seafarers are looking for in union membership.

To wrap up the evening, participants took part in a perfume-making workshop, where they got hands-on with scent layering and brought home a personalised bottle—a simple takeaway from a meaningful session.

Events like these continue to play an important role in building community and keeping conversations going among women in maritime.
