SMOU Women’s Networking Session: Confidence, Connection and Conversation

It was more than just an evening out. For 18 women seafarers who gathered on 19 November 2025, the SMOU Women’s Networking Session became a much-needed pause; a space to connect, be heard, and simply enjoy the company of others who understood life at sea.

Held at Lighthouse Bistro, the evening began with a casual dinner together with YSMOU representatives, that encouraged conversation and camaraderie. Seafarers, cadets from the Diploma in Nautical Studies programme, and TMTA cadets mingled, shared stories, and found common ground.

The group then moved to the Mariners’ Lounge for a guided session with Ms Preeti Dubey, psychologist and founder of Strive High. Drawing from her experience in workplace mental health, Preeti led an honest conversation about navigating bullying and harassment at sea. She encouraged participants to reflect on their boundaries and resilience, offering practical advice in a space that felt safe and supportive.

To end the night, the atmosphere shifted with a hands-on personal colour analysis workshop by Code.d. While learning about colour palettes and undertones, the group lightened up, shared laughs, and continued their conversations. Each participant went home not just with a personalised colour card, but also with new perspectives and connections.

The session was a reminder that community matters and that even a single evening of listening and learning can go a long way in strengthening support for women in maritime.
