In conjunction of International Women’s Day, SMOU hosted the yearly Women’s Networking Session on 12 March 2025, bringing together female seafarers for a day of empowerment, connection, and creativity. The event provided platform for women in the maritime industry to share their experiences, build strong networks, and uplift one another.
Empowerment through Self-Defence
The day kicked off with a dynamic self-defence workshop, where participants learned practical Krav Maga techniques to defend against attacks, boost situational awareness, and use vocal assertiveness—because shouting “Back off!” can be just as powerful as a punch!
Conversations that Inspire
Over a lively lunch, stories flowed about career journeys, workplace challenges, and triumphs in a male-dominated industry. Laughter and encouragement filled the air, turning strangers into a strong support network.
Sneaker Art Jamming
The afternoon brought a fun, therapeutic Sneaker Art Jam, where participants customised their own sneakers with stencil designs. As they painted, they bonded—exchanging contacts, sharing career tips, and forming lasting friendships.
The SMOU Women’s Networking Session wasn’t just an event—it was a celebration of resilience and unity. With customised sneakers, new friendships, and renewed confidence, the women walked away knowing they are not alone—they are part of a strong and supportive sisterhood.
